Apple, where the prices of new versions of the iPhone exceeded two thousand euros. Are they worth that much money?

Apple recently released four new versions of its popular iPhones – iPhone 14, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max and 14 Plus. We recently tested two versions of the new iPhones, the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro, to see if they were worth the money. Both are priced at more than a thousand euros, and the 14 Pro Max version (with a 1 T charger) has more than two thousand euros.

As in 2021, this year’s editions are not revolutionaryly different from the previous ones. The appearance of all four versions is very similar to the iPhone 13 version – the appearance of the rear camera is almost exactly the same, only the Apple icon on the back of the phone is slightly larger.

What has changed?

Progress is noticeable mainly in the processor. iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are still powered by the A15 Bionic chip, while iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Plus are powered by the advanced A16 Bionic chip with the new generation Neural Engine.

The big news for all versions is Cinema mode, which is available in 4K Dolby Vision up to 30fps, and videos are smooth in motion mode, as phones include the stabilizer that Android users already know.

A novelty that Apple users do not yet know

The big news, which is only available to iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max users, is Dynamic Island. It is an innovative hardware and software solution for new apps notification experience. This feature replaces the front camera and allows users to check which notifications and activities are currently going on (such as voice recording, timer, music playing, etc.). The main drawback of this innovation is that while touching Dynamic Island, users keep clicking on the front camera, which is more likely to get the camera dirty. As a result, if users do not clean the camera, photos and videos will be smudged and full of fingerprints.

Many interesting features

The aforementioned iPhones also have a new Always On Display function, which means that content is available to users even on the locked screen (the screen never turns off, unless the user turns this function off). An interesting feature of these two phones is also the 3D scanner. It’s an app that must be downloaded from the App Store, but it allows you to draw the space you’re in.

The progress in all phones is also shown in the camera resolution. The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have a dual-head camera (12MP) ultra-wide, while the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max have a triple-head camera (48MP) which is also an ultra-wide (12MP) camera.

An interesting feature in the new versions of Apple phones is that in the event of an accident, the phones communicate with the SOS via satellite and transmit the location of the accident. Those who developed this innovation hope that phone users will not need it, but the function is very useful, as it can save many lives.

Image quality is two to three times better

Autofocus is also new, which means that the phone automatically focuses on subjects and subjects while shooting or recording. Also new is up to three times zoom, with four times better camera quality, HDR video recording (also with the front camera), and selfies can be zoomed in and out. The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max also feature ProRes recording, but there is a downside as it requires a phone with at least 256GB of storage.

Progress can also be seen in the quality of photos and recordings – in low light they are 2-3 times better, as the phone automatically brightens them. The brightness of the screen is also better, with its brightness up to twice the usual brightness in the sun. The iPhone 14 Pro has a 48MP sensor, by comparison, the iPhone 13 Pro has a 12MP sensor.

What are the disadvantages?

However, the mentioned phones also have some drawbacks. None of them are waterproof. The iPhone XS, XS Max, and 11 can survive the longest, up to 2 meters and 30 minutes underwater. In the US, new versions of phones only have an eSIM, which means the SIM card is permanently embedded in the mobile device. In other places, i.e. also in Slovenia, phones still have a regular SIM card, that is, a nano SIM card in physical form. Charging is also a drawback, as old chargers (such as the iPhone XS) take several hours to charge the phone.

There are also drawbacks to the accessories, because with the purchase of any of the above phones, you only get a USB-C Lightning data cable in the package. This means that if you have not had an Apple phone in the past, you will have to buy an adapter for about 30 euros. The package also does not include headphones, which will have to be paid extra and cost about 33 euros. This is exactly what has caused a lot of criticism among Apple users, because the price of the phones is already very high, and there are additional fees required for the already necessary accessories.
