The Susca Dolina Rally was marked by a Rock Turk victory and the renewed national title (Hyundai i20 Rally 2), but also by the boys’ daring 2WD drive. The most terrifying experience was that of Luca Bros (Rally Ford Fiesta 4), who was left without brakes during a fast descent.

Bovec, Kobarid or the entire Suska Valley is famous for its adrenaline sports, and cars always gain a place there. Yesterday, the roads around the Lefko Plateau, Volo and Šntviška hosted the penultimate rally of this year’s National Championship season under the auspices of the AŠ2005 federation. We’ve got a new or old National Champion, we’ve seen exceptional driving by two talented drivers, not even 20 years old, and also some accidents. This is inevitable in the crew’s ruthless race against time, but sometimes it also happens due to technical malfunctions.

Luka Bros and Tadig Zalgobercic (Ford Fiesta Rally 4) experienced this experience firsthand, at very high speed during a hard landing. As can be seen in the video below, they had already crossed the finish line and then Brus could hardly prevent a much worse accident by pulling on the handbrake.

The penultimate rally and the season marked by the six-time Turkish champion

After last year’s rally, Suska Valley hosted a National Championship Rally for the first time. The penultimate test of the season took place in seven speed tests in the wider Kobarid area, where the rally center was a service area. With this new victory, Rok Turk (hyundai i20 rally2) became the National Rally Champion for the sixth time. He won all seven of the Tests and won more than those last three points, which he was still lacking before the start.

The 40-year-old Turk drove his first mountain race in 2001 in Planina and began driving a rally with the Volkswagen Polo a year later. Twenty years later, he became one of the most successful rally drivers in Slovenia. This year, he became a National Champion for the sixth time in a row. His compatriot Darko Bilgan also holds six titles, while the Turk was also his racing mechanic during his student years. While Türk has won six titles in six years, Bilgan is spread over a 22-year period. The Turk led over a hundred Rally of the Slovenian Championship and celebrated yesterday with his 31st victory in Kobarid. Co-driver Blanca Cassin became the national champion among the co-drivers already in the previous rally in Nova Gorica, which was her fifth overall title.

The six-time champion never failed anyone under a minute

The Turk’s advantage was significant, with second-placed Marco Grossi (Hyundai i20 R5) trailing by 1 minute 25 seconds. The guy from Portoroz wanted to get close to the Turk, trailing a second and a half in a kilometer from the test. Meanwhile, Grossi was fast enough to leave Boštjan Logar behind (damage to fabia rally 2). Lugar, who has run just 12 kilometers with this race car since his last appearance at Selezniki, was 41 seconds behind Grossi.

Great match between 18 and 19 years old

Right behind the first three was the battle for the top of the two-wheeler race car category. The favorite was Mark Škulj (ford fiesta rally4), but again Nik Prunk (Peugeot 208 rally 4) was excellent. Škulj and Prunk each won three speed tests, and Jan Medved (ford fiesta rally4) also won one. At the finish line, the two fastest drivers, aged 18 and 19 respectively, were separated by 17 seconds. For the first half of the rally, they were behind the three leading crews of Rally2 four-wheel drive cars.

Third place in the two-wheeled competition was Grega Premrl (Peugeot 208 Rally 4), fourth was Medved. The captain started in the national championship according to expectations, that is, very strongly, since he did not want to commit to only the reserved tactical leadership. Medved, who is already fifth in the last two rallies, defended his fourth place in the last kilometres, ahead of Swede Mel Johansson (Ford Rally 4).

The first title for another talent of Martin Shindak

In Division 3, Miha Mušič (BMW M3) celebrated after the resignation of champion Matic Homar (Renault Clio RS), and in Division 1, Martin Schendak (Opel Adam Cup) confirmed the title of National Champion with a new victory. The second was Domaine Celico (Opel Adam Cup), and the third was the Rock Buddle (Skoda Fabia).
